The ceremony honors individuals who are showcasing the disability narrative.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis has been such an amazing year for disability all over in the media and I am so honored to get to be here today,\u201d Rowe said while accepting the award. \u201cI cannot wait to see what the next year and the next decade has for people with disabilities and inclusion of people with disabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rowe did not begin speaking until he was older and created his own sign language to communicate. He usually memorizes his lines before going into an audition as not to read the cue cards. This is due to being legally blind in addition to having autism.<\/p>\n<p>He also has acted in many performances at theatres around Seattle. He has performed at the Seattle Opera, the Seattle\u2019s Children Theatre, the Seattle Shakespeare Company, Syracuse Stage, Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT), Book-It Repertory Theatre, The Eugene O\u2019Neill Theatre Center, Washington Ensemble Theatre, The Ashland New Plays Festival, Oregon Shakespeare Festival Presents, Oregon Shakespeare Festival Midnight Projects and the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.<\/p>\n<p>In addition to being a talented actor, Rowe has spoken out about how inclusion of cast members and actors with disabilities is important and the dangers of negative portrayals of such characters with disabilities in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.teenvogue.com\/story\/netflix-atypical-autism-representation\">Teen Vogue<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbur.org\/hereandnow\/2017\/09\/14\/curious-incident-mickey-rowe\">NPR<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.playbill.com\/article\/the-first-actor-with-autism-to-play-curious-incidents-autistic-lead-speaks-out\">Playbill<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mickeyrowe.me\/2017\/10\/29\/cnns-great-big-story\/\">CNN\u2019s Big Story<\/a>\u00a0and on many other news platforms. He also is the Artistic Director of Arts at the Waterfront, a theatre and philanthropic theatre company that works with homeless teen artists. What power and responsibility that we all have that we get to make that much change for so many other people in our industry and hundreds of other industries around the country.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rowe also is a professional juggler, unicyclist, plate spinner, hat manipulator, stilt walker, puppeteer and more.
